We follow The Bluestone Process to ensure we cover all the bases.


We follow The Bluestone Process to first learn about our client’s given situation, needs, and goals. Once we gather all of the relevant information, we start to sketch out a short and long term strategy that lays out the foundation and creates a proactive, predictable setup rather than a reactive one. We analyze various options from fully insured, level funded, and, if applicable, a variety of self funded solutions. We’ll implement the selected set of plans and ensure that the client has the right benefit administrative setup in place to manage the plan effectively. Throughout the year, we’ll periodically meet on an agreed upon cadence to review performance vs. budget and adjust as needed while supporting both the management team and their employees with any health insurance related questions or concerns.

Discover & Analyze

Deeply understanding each group’s goals & objectives, current setup, and future growth projections is the starting point in our process. We gather information around current plans, financing, cost sharing, program history, and key objectives.

Once we have the relevant data, we enter into the Analysis phase which includes the following:

  • Analyze current plan offering and contribution structure
  • Strategize with employer to come up with a target goal for level of benefits and overall contribution
  • Discuss alternative funding programs and education on risks associated with each
  • Perform needs analysis around Payroll/HRIS, employee communication strategy and technology

Design & Execute

We create a multi-year strategy incorporating tactics aligned to business objectives and target KPIs. We then design and recommend the appropriate set of employee benefit plans and implement them,

  • Use current data to determine market segment and identify key carriers
  • Use benchmark data to support plan requests & model cost savings
  • Negotiate best rates for the chosen set of employee benefit solutions
  • Roll out communication strategy & support open enrollment
  • Manage benefit administration set up and delivery to employees
  • Deliver monthly reporting to highlight results & trends

Measure & Refine

We measure outcomes and results against budget and other KPIs including market trend. We monitor high cost claims and implement cost containment programs when possible. We work with our clients to continually adjust for changes in workforce, organizational strategy, and health & wellness program initiatives.

  • Track current budget to performance trend
  • Identify high cost claims and determine potential fit for relevant cost containment programs
  • Adjust as needed to ensure goals are being met
  • Begin planning several months ahead for the future plan year through underwriting and analytic models
